Sunset FC (formerly FC Silverlake) is inspired by iconic Sunset Boulevard. As one of Los Angeles’ main thoroughfares, it weaves through the cultural landscape of the city. Our club’s new name represents the diversity within our club united by our common thread of passion for the game.

Sunset FC has a rich history spanning over a decade in Los Angeles. It played its inaugural season in 2011 in the LA Municipal Soccer League under its original name, FC Silverlake. The original team won consecutive titles to earn its way into the top division of the league. In 2014, Sunset FC expanded from one team to two. The original team became FC Silverlake United. One year later, the newer team was renamed FC Silverlake Red Lions, after solidifying a sponsorship with local pub, The Red Lion Tavern. The Red Lion Tavern became the social hub of the club, hosting season kick off parties, end of season banquets, after game drinks, and formal club meetings. 

FC Silverlake continued to grow rapidly, adding teams to additional divisions and expanding into the Santa Monica Adult Soccer League. The club established itself as a registered 501(c) non-profit organization to better serve the community in 2015. It continued to expand its sponsor relations by partnering with ENDALGO to meet its club management needs and local family-owned soccer retailer, Niky’s Sports in 2018. In 2021, the club was renamed Sunset FC after Sunset Boulevard to reflect the identity of the club’s diverse members across Los Angeles. Sunset FC currently includes 150 active members.

We have a core team of leadership that helps keep the club organized and moving on daily basis. Everyone volunteers their time to the numerous aspects of managing the club.

SAM MARTIN

CO-FOUNDER, PRESIDENT

Sam founded the club as we know it today over a decade ago. Sam oversees the day to day operations of the club in partnership with kim. During business hours, he works in the finance world as an investment advisor for corporate retirement plans. Sam played club soccer at Pepperdine University and lived abroad in argentina during the 2010 world cup! As a playing philosophy, sam believes effort can overcome experience.

KIM WONG

Kim manages the Red Lions and oversees player management, marketing, and day to day operations with sam. Kim is always the first coach to tell everyone to get on the line. and is a dog mom to a special needs pup. kim is originally from the bay area and a (Twice) pepperdine graduate. Kim is a direct communicator and is always looking for ways to raise the game of each player and the team overall.

RICH GORDON

Rich Manages the Legends and is also our resident tech guru and photographer extraordinaire. He is the creative director of KickS To the pitch and is professor gordon at FIDM during the week. You may also catch him on the worship team at mosaic on the weekends. Rich played soccer at UCF and is a proud jamaican.

WILL PANZA

TEAM MANAGER

Will re-joined fc silverlake in 2019 to start the strollers after returning from china, where he managed at football beijing. Will works in public administration and has experience serving as tournament director, club manager, and coach at the youth level. WIll has Coaching licenses from the US Soccer Federation, English FA, and United Soccer Coaches. Will believes in creating a positive atmosphere that fosters teamwork, commitment and taking risks. Will is an arsenal fan and can be heckled directly using the “Contact will” button.
